Podcast Preparations
- Go to Talkshoe (http://talkshoe.com)
& register for an account. At this time, it is not necessary to
create a program.
- Watch their training videos.
These will help familiarize you with their site & the features when
you do your shows.
- Choose a day & time
for your program. At first, your program should only be 30 minutes but
plan for 60 minutes. I like to sign on early so I can greet my guests
and get ready to record. Once you have chosen your day & time, send
it to me.
- Explore Talkshoe. Find programs like
yours & listen to them. Get a feel for what is being done. Check
out shows on other sites as well.
- Create 3-4
names for your program so we can discuss them before finalizing.
- Develop a schedule of topics to go through the end of
the year.
- Create a list of potential
interview guests. You don’t have to know them but I urge you to be
realistic in the beginning.
- Discuss #6 & 7
with me for fine tuning & brainstorming.
- Contact
potential guests & schedule them. Ask them to send you 10-12
questions you can ask during the interview. If they have a book, ask
them to send you a copy. Send them an email confirming their appearance
& the items you requested during your discussion.
- Develop a panel of women (8-10) that fit the market
for your program. You can schedule topics every 6-8 weeks for the panel.
You will only invite 3-4 of them per show but it helps to have extras
on call if needed.
- Enlist a large group of
friends to listen live to you program & to call in when you are
first starting. You might even prepare questions for them to keep things
moving.
- Once you & I have agreed on
everything & finalized it, create your program & schedule the
first show on Talkshoe. Add the widget to your website. Create a
Facebook fan page for your program. I will create a fan page for the
network.
- Work to have all this done by the
beginning of August. This gives us time to promote your program. Once
your schedule is finalized, send it to me along with a current photo. I
will create a logo for your program & send it to you so you can add
it to your Talkshoe profile. I will then add your program info, photo
& schedule to our website.
Jean Ann Duckworth is available as a guest for your program. She can discuss
how her Simple Joy philosophy applies to your topic. I also believe each
host of a program on or network should be a guest on all the other
programs. Even if their topic doesn’t apply, they can contribute to your
program. This helps to promote the entire network.
Finally, to help you get started with your
program, here is a program breakdown. It shows you how to plan out the
30 minutes.
-5:00: Sign on to
program. Mute the audience so they can’t hear or talk. Talk to your
guest. Go over the procedure.
-1:00:
Greet your audience & tell them you are going to begin recording in
1 minute.
0:00: Begin
recording.
0:00-04:30:
Introduce the topic. Offer general information on the topic as well as
statistics that may apply. Mention your guest so audience stays tuned
through commercial.
4:30-5:00:
Commercial break. This will be a live commercial you will read.
5:00-14:30: Interview your guest
14:30-15:00: Commercial break
15:00-29:30: Take questions from listeners.
They may ask by chat or phone. If they type their question, be certain
to read it for the recording.
29:30-30:00:
Thank your guest. If they have a book, website, etc. be certain to
promote it for them. Thank your listeners. Preview next week’s program.
Mention sponsors. Finish show.
30:00:
Stop recording.
30:30: Again,
thank you audience. Thank your guest & invite them back. Sign off.
It
is very simple. Fill the audience with friends & relatives at first
so you feel comfortable. People that drop into your program are more
likely to stay if they see lots of people are participating. We can
practice before your first show so you are more comfortable.
